DELTA- The Panthers side stepped three runs on four hits by Archbold in the top of the sixth inning, hanging on for a 5-3 win in at home in ACME baseball Tuesday night.

Delta got on board first in the bottom of the second when with runners on second and third, Grant Yoder’s suicide squeeze plated Parker Phillips to make it 1-0 Panthers. They added another when the very next batter, Dustin Myers, drew a wild pitch on what was the fourth ball of the at bat, bringing home Jacob Buchop who had advanced to third on the previous play.

Delta pitcher Blake Gladieux got the Blue Streaks to go 1-2-3 in the top of the third, thus allowing his squad to score three more in the bottom half of the inning. They got their first run of the side when Jesse Beverly notched his second hit of the day, advanced on a fielder’s choice and stole third, then came home on a single from Austin Sayen.

Then with Sayen and Phillips both on, Buchop drilled a two run double to make it 5-0 Panthers through three.

The contest was at a stand still from there as Gladieux held the Blue Streak offense to only two hits through six innings.

Those knocks came from singles by Jeff Sparks and Hunter Galvan in the top of the fourth. Unfortunately for Archbold, the offensive pressure came with two out in the inning and Gladieux got Ian Radabaugh down on strikes to end the threat.

The Panthers got a runner to third with only one out in the bottom of the sixth when Parker Phillips singled and pinch runner Jason Beverly took off from second on a wild pitch by Archbold’s Ben Bucklew. But when Owen Tedrick made soft contact with a ball into the infield, the Streaks defense made the play and got Beverly out at home.

Bucklew then struck out Yoder to send it into the seventh where the Streaks would attempt a massive comeback.

Radabaugh walked with one out and CJ Brubaker’s stand-up triple scored him easily from first to make it 5-1. Toby Walker hit a fielder’s choice to plate the Streaks second run of the game, clearing the bases.

They did not stay clear for long as Mitchell Hogrefe doubled and came home on a hit from Isaac Petersen.

However, with two out the Panthers did not panic and the very next batter flew out to shallow left to end it.

Gladieux got the win on the mound after relinquishing three runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout. Bucklew took the loss for Archbold.

Beverly and Phillips each had a pair of hits to lead the Panthers, while Petersen and Brubaker each had an RBI for the Streaks.
